The Real Secret Behind "Effortless"
Let’s be real: the “effortless” girls? They’re not effortless. They’re organised. Disciplined. And strategic. The TikTok trend “I’m high maintenance to stay low maintenance” is a trend that explains what people do regularly to feel they're best without committing to a 2 hour daily routine. In this post I want to share with you the things I commit to regularly so that I can wake up, show up, and move through life feeling like that girl- without having to stress over every little thing.
Here are 13 high-maintenance habits that make my day-to-day feel effortless (even though they definitely take effort).

1. Monthly Nail Appointments
I keep my nails on a set schedule. It’s one less thing to worry about daily, and it always makes me feel put-together even in a hoodie and slick bun.
2. Weekly Teeth Whitening
Once a week, I use a whitening strips. It keeps my smile fresh and bright without worrying. Plus: I drink coffee guilt-free.
3. Weekly Face Masks
Sunday = skincare ritual. I use the same Ordinary clay face mask which keeps my skin clear and glowy, so makeup becomes optional.
4. Self-Tan Routine
That healthy, sun-kissed glow? Not an accident. I self-tan regularly with the Garnier Gradual Tanning moisturiser to look alive during grey months, and it genuinely boosts my confidence.
5. Hair Gloss Every 6-8 Weeks
In between hair appointments, I use a hair gloss to keep my tone fresh, shiny, and rich, and means less daily styling.
6. Sauna Sessions
Sauna time is my reset- it helps with circulation, reduces puffiness, and keeps my skin clear and radiant.
7. Daily Supplement Stack
My supplement lineup supports my skin, mood, digestion, and energy.
8. Move My Body Every Day
Not every workout has to be intense, sometimes it’s just a walk or stretching. But daily movement keeps me energised, reduces anxiety, and maintains my body with less effort.
9. Seasonal Closet Cleanouts
Every few months, I go through my wardrobe and edit. Everything left fits, flatters, and works together. So getting dressed? Zero stress.
10. Diary + Daily To-Do List
Every morning or night, I write things down. Journaling keeps my mind clear. Lists keep my day focused. It’s mental hygiene, and it makes me way more productive and emotionally stable.
11. Therapy
This is the highest form of maintenance, and the most important. Unpacking emotions, patterns, and stress with a professional means I can navigate life with less reactivity and more clarity.
12. Meal Prep
A fridge full of prepped ingredients = no more random takeout or skipped meals. I save money, eat healthier, and feel better throughout the week.
13. Bed by 9:30 PM (Once a Week)
This is my self-appointed “reset night.” No screens, no plans, just sleep. One early night a week does wonders for my skin, hormones, and brain. It’s like plugging myself back in.
Being “low maintenance” is often just the result of very intentional habits working quietly in the background.
This is your permission to be as high maintenance as you want, if it makes your life smoother, lighter, and more aligned.
Love, Aria
