The Best of New York City: My Top Recommendations

New York City is a place like no other – a vibrant, fast-paced city brimming with culture, history, and unforgettable experiences. Whether it's your first time visiting or you're a seasoned traveler, the city always has something new to offer. From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, there's never a shortage of things to do. In this post, I’ll be sharing some of my top recommendations for making the most out of your time in the Big Apple.

1. Central Park

A stroll through Central Park offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city, where nature's beauty meets iconic landscapes, providing the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

2. Williamsburg

Williamsburg is a vibrant neighborhood where art, culture, and trendsetting cafes collide, offering visitors a unique blend of historic charm and modern creativity and my personal favourite spot in Brooklyn.

3. Soho and Noho

SoHo is a stylish hub of upscale boutiques, galleries, and trendy restaurants, while NoHo is a hidden gem in New York, where historic architecture meets the new arts scene.

4. West Village (Carrie Bradshaw's House; 66 Perry Street)

The West Village has a charming, bohemian vibe with its brownstones, cozy cafes, and quaint shops, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely afternoon stroll. And for fans of Sex and the City, a visit to 66 Perry Street — Carrie Bradshaw's iconic New York townhouse.

5. Brooklyn Bridge

Experiencing the Brooklyn Bridge at sunrise is nothing short of magical, as the soft glow of the morning light casts over the iconic skyline, offering a peaceful and breathtaking start to the day (away from the tourists).

6. Bushwick

Bushwick is a dynamic neighbourhood where vibrant street art, trendy bars, and industrial lofts come together (and where the iconic TV show Girls was set). Ornithology Jazz Bar was my favourite spot to go to in an evening in Brooklyn. The Jazz bar offers an intimate, soulful atmosphere, with a Jazz band performing from 8pm to 11pm and then improvisation from 12am to 2am where talented musicians from around the city come to jam together.

7. The Edge

When in New York you must experience at least one skyline view. My personal favourite was The Edge as it offers a view of New York City from its outdoor sky deck that stretches across the skyline (and unlike visiting the Empire State Building, you can also see the Empire State Building from your view which makes the experience extra special).

8. MOMA

There are many amazing museums in NYC but The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) was my favourite by far. Showcasing a stunning collection of contemporary masterpieces, from paintings to sculptures, designs, and films, making it a must-visit destination for anyone.

9. Ferry to DUMBO from Manhattan

Taking the ferry from Manhattan to DUMBO offers a scenic and refreshing ride across the East River, with stunning views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan skyline, making it the perfect way to begin your exploration of this artsy, vibrant neighbourhood.

11. China Town and Little Italy

Exploring Chinatown and Little Italy offers a delightful mix of culture, history, and flavour, and after wandering through vibrant streets and markets, a stop at Golden Diner for brunch is the perfect way to savour classic comfort food with a modern twist in an inviting, retro setting.

Whether you're a tourist or resident, the beauty of New York is that there is always something new to explore, I hope this gives you some ideas to plan a day out in the city.

Love, Aria
