Why Sex and the City is the Ultimate TV Show.
I recently started the series Sex and the City for the first time and wondered why I hadn't started it earlier. Six seasons, two movies, Carrie's Diaries and now Just Like That cements that people feel the same way I do. I hope by the end of this post if you still need to be convinced to watch the show this persuades you further.
Sex and the City is rediscovered in each generation with its relevant topics for young adults and older women as it tells a story from the female gaze. The show follows the lives of four single women; Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte; all living in New York in their 30s. Each character has their own story and lives separate lives, with their own jobs and relationships but come together through the love of shopping, food and sex. It's been such a breath of fresh air to see four women embracing their sexuality and experimenting with their relationships, all while wearing the most stylish outfits.
Before I had even seen Sex in the City I was a fan of Carrie's Diaries. The show tells the story of Carrie's teenage years and growing up in a small town with bigger dreams of moving to the city (classic!) while facing real teenage issues such as; sex, pubity and friendship.
I can't say much on the matter of And Just Like That since I just started Sex in the City and haven't yet seen it, however, I am very excited for what's ahead. From the synopsis, the series seems to be dealing with issues of ageing, old friendships and sex in your 50s which is capturing an audience that is often overlooked.
Therefore, from the three series, it's clear that the Sex and the City trilogy is the ultimate series and forever will be for the next generation of women due to its honest storytelling about life as a single woman, whether that was in 1994 or 2024.
