Cinema Sundays!

Every winter we get depressed because it's wet and cold, this year I didn't want to rot in my room so at university my friends and I created 'Cinema Sundays'. Every other week we book to see a new film on a Sunday evening. This has been a great way to see the new movies while still being social. Since I've been to see quite a few movies this winter I thought it would only to share my thoughts on these trending movies. In this week's post, I will be rating recent films I have gone to see and whether they are worth the money and time.

All of Us Strangers

7/10

The acting was amazing in this film and I enjoyed the story but there was an element that I couldn't put my finger on it that left me unsatisfied when leaving the cinema. As the story unravelled it became too complicated which left everyone confused until we spoke through what had happened. Maybe this was the intent of the film but it meant too much was going on for the sort time that the movie was. Apart from this it was a great film and worth watching!

Poor Things

6/10

From a creative perspective the directing, cinematography and costumes were amazing but from an audience's perspective, I couldn't say I enjoyed the film. The storyline was very fucked up and I couldn't unsee this therefore leaving me uncomfortable throughout the two hours and even after.

Salt Burn

9/10

I know there has been some controversy about the movie, however, I thought it was genius. The acting and directing were amazing and the storyline kept me fully invested throughout. I was a bit disappointed that the movie is now on Amazon Prime because it really deserved to be on the big screen longer, however, if you haven't already seen it now's your chance.

Pricilla

6/10

I had high hopes for this film but think it was a complete flop. I read the book by Pricilla Presley, 'Elvis and Me' last year and felt that Pricilla deserved to tell her story because it was so shocking and interesting, so finding out it would be directed by Sophia Coppola I was so excited! The movie wasn't true to Pricilla's story which was what made the movie lack the element that made the book such a page-turner.

This month I am excited to see two films in particular...

Dune 2

?/10 (1st March 2024)

I wasn't able to see Dune 1 when it first hit the cinema so only recently watched it on Netflix. The movie was great and set in some amazing locations that I believe would be incredible on the big screen so I am going to make sure to watch the second film in cinemas!

Wicked Little Letters

?/10 (23rd February 2024)

From the trailer, this looks like a film that you can properly laugh out loud to. Set in the 1920s with a modern music story and a great cast- the movie has so much potential so here's to next Sunday!
