Ins and Outs 2024
Recently everyone has been writing their 'ins and outs' for 2024 and thought I would join the trend and write my own list. 'Ins and outs' are two lists, 'ins' is the list that expresses what needs to stay/come into the new year, and 'outs' is what should be left in 2023. This can be a personal list or more focused on media and trends that everyone should follow this year. In this week's post I have created a broad list of 'ins and outs' that I hope will make this year even better than last for myself and everyone else.
IN:-Reading
For Christmas, I received the book- A Little Life and have been reading it every day. In 2024 we should all focus on expanding our knowledge and getting through that reading list we created in our notes app long ago.
-Cooking at home
Let's spend less money on eating out and make more nutritious meals at home with friends and family.
-Solo dates
I really got into solo dates when I was travelling, however, since starting university I haven't had enough time to treat myself to a day out alone. Therefore in 2024, I hope to make more time for myself and visit the places without the need to be with others.
-Morning and evening routines
My morning/evening routine is so therapeutic, but sometimes I don't give myself enough time. This year I am going to make sure to use my time wisely and give myself enough time so that I am not rushing my routine, as it's probably the only time I have for myself before the day begins/ends.
-"If it's not a hell yes, it's a no"
I love this quote and definitely want to bring it into the new year! If you are debating that much whether to go out or stay in, just stay in- you aren't missing out on anything.
-Quality over Quantity
I will continue to preach this- when choosing friends pick quality over quantity always! You will never be satisfied with how many friends you have or don't have but having a good friend, someone that you can rely on, makes all the difference.
-Hot Girl Walks
I love my daily walk and have continued this habit even at university. Dedicate 30 minutes of your day to putting on your headphones and walking spontaneously around town or campus- the fresh air and excirses will boost your mood instantly.
-Breakfast
What are you doing skipping breakfast? Life is too short not to enjoy your food so make sure to fuel yourself and 'break the fast' with a wholesome bowl of porridge or a classic- eggs and bacon OR both!
-Therapy
Lastly and most importantly, if you can- go to therapy. There are so many resources out there to begin your self-love/self-acceptance journey but only you can start that journey so make that change!
OUT:
- Buying new clothes for an occasion
Enough with the spring cleaning. We do it each year and realise how much we have, so in 2024- buy more consciously. You probably have everything already in your wardrobe so don't buy another dress just for one party. If you do want some more clothes try and buy second-hand or rent- it will save you money and space in your wardrobe.
-Buying coffee out
I love going to coffee shops and getting myself a 'treat', however, recently I've been watching myself happily spend £5 daily on a cappuccino and it's getting ridiculous. Treat yourself but I think this year we should be more conscious of what we are spending our money on, especially in this economy.
-Late-night bedtime
Since being back for the Christmas holidays I have tried to get to bed at a reasonable time to catch up on sleep that I have missed out on at university. I found I have more energy, I am getting more done during the day and my sleep schedule is more regulated, therefore in 2024 late nights are out!
-Doom scrolling
Doom scrolling is also definitely out, especially late-night doom scrolling! Do whatever you have to do to stop yourself- remove your phone from the room, put a timer on your social media or set up 'bedtime' on your phone so you don't end up wasting your evening scrolling through TikTok or Instagram.
-Overthinking
Stop overthinking everything you said or did, and get on with life- that's my new mentality. You did what you did, you said what you said- in the end, no one will remember so why should you.
-FOMO
Lastly and most importantly, FOMO is out! My New Year resolution was to ditch FOMO (fear of missing out) and gain JOMO (joy of missing out), because when you have to push yourself that much to go out, how much fun are you actually going to have?
Let me know if any of these 'ins and outs' are on your list this year.
Love, Aria
XO
