Girl Therapy

The TikTok trend going around at the moment is 'Girl Therapy', which is basically focusing on what girls do to make them feel better. This is the perfect time as the weather is getting colder and the sun is setting earlier which has led to a lot of people suffering from seasonal depression. At this time of the year, we should be looking after ourselves and focusing on what makes us happy to keep the winter blues away. In this week's post, I will share a list of 'girl therapy' activities that make me feel better when I am feeling down.

1. Bubble bath

Keeping warm during the cold months is important and it's a time to relax away from everything for an hour, just to focus on yourself and your health.

2. Buy yourself lunch

The Gen Z 'treat yourself' mentality really applies to this whole post but specifically this one. Taking yourself out on a date is important as you need to treat yourself every once in a while for a nice meal in town, especially as a student.

3. Nail salon

Once a month I take a day to get my nails done, I know that it's expensive to get beauty services done, however, you have to rationalise what's worth the money and what isn't- for me my nails make me feel much more put together and much more worth my money than other services.

4. Work in a cafe

If you feel overwhelmed by work I always recommend changing your location and working through your tasks. Going to a cafe will make you more productive while still treating yourself to something nice as a reward.

5. Workout

This one doesn't resonate with everyone but I find working out helps me clear my mind and makes me feel more energised for the day.

6. Shopping

Obviously the best solution whenever I feel down is taking myself to the shops and checking out the new items, especially at Christmas time with the new winter collection.

7. Haircut

If you need a haircut or want to change your style, take yourself down to the hairdressers and make that change that you always wanted- it will boost your confidence and make you feel pretty.

8. Baking

One way I like to make time for myself is spending time making my favourite dessert, without having to go on my phone or focus on any work.

9. Long walk

If you are little bit low on money then I would recommend going for a long walk by yourself or with a friend. Getting outside when the weather is nice and is still light out is important for your mental health.

10. Make dinner

If you're not as good at baking, maybe go to town and buy ingredients to make your favourite meal. I love having a themed dinner with friends and making an evening of it without having to spend too much money.

11. Flowers for no reason

Next time you are doing your weekly grocery shop maybe pop some flowers in your basket to brighten your room.

12. Clean the house

'Clean room, clean mind'- if you are feeling a little bit overwhelmed I would spend some time doing a deep clean and organising your life so there is less stress in other areas of your life.

13. Everything shower

As well as a bubble bath I love having an 'everything shower' which is when you wash your hair, scrub, shave and moisturise, leaving your body super clean and refreshed.

14. Girl's drinks

At university I sometimes find with all my work that I isolate myself from my friends so make sure to take time to catch up with friends, whether that's going to a cafe or pub for a drink.

15. Supermarket shop

Especially on the weekend I take myself to the supermarket to do a big food shop for the week. I make sure to plan my meals so that I don't get overwhelmed during the week what I am going to make for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Love,
