How to survive freshers

Firstly I need to apologise for being offline recently, however, university life has got in the way and I wanted to make a solid routine with my studies before I could start writing again. In this week's post, I want to share with you my advice to any new students moving to university and becoming freshers.

1. Don't be the last to leave

Although it's freshers and everyone's staying out late, it doesn't mean you have to stay the whole time, especially if you go out most nights. Go out but when you start to question whether you want to be there maybe its time to go home.

2. Take time for yourself

The first year is busy, with starting a degree, learning to live alone and making friends so make sure in your busy schedule to find time for yourself. Whether that's watching a film, going for a walk or meal prepping, have some time to recharge your social battery.

3. Say yes to pres

Pres is the place to meet people so if anyone asks you to their flat pre-drinks, go! If you are nervous or a bit shy bring a friend with you so you at least know one other person, but make sure to put yourself out there.

4. Remember to Eat

Especially during the first week, it's important to fuel yourself and keep safe when drinking alcohol. You won't necessarily have time to cook meals or meal prep but stock up on frozen pizzas and microwave meals. This might be more expensive than making food yourself, however, in the long run, you will save money by not eating out as much (or getting your stomach pumped).

5. Show up to lectures

First impressions do matter so make sure to show up to your lectures and let your lecturers know you are ready to work hard. Although they're not going to be super important they will still help you get into a routine. If you have an early lecture and you went out the night before, find time to nap later, don't just miss the lecture.

6. Have all the medication ready

I would have your lemsip at the ready for when you inevitably get freshers flu. Sometimes medication is out of stock when everyone starts to get ill so buy some paracetamol, ibuprofen and lemsip before you arrive at university.

7. Stay Hydrated

Lastly, it's important to put a water bottle on your uni shopping list because you are going to need it.  Drinking water before and after a night out is going to save you from those hangover headaches. Make sure to always keep it by your bedside table to help your future self.
