Eat, Pray, Love (But Mostly Eating)

Last week, I spent seven days in Rome, Italy with my best friends. We hadn't much planned other than having the best food. TikTok has lots of recommendations for restaurants, however, Rome is filled with tourists at the moment and many of these places had queued for hours. My friends and I decided to avoid these types of places due to the long waiting times and wanted to try more authentic Italian food (which also was cheaper). In this week's post, I want to share with you these seven places which each had something on the menu I would keep going back to if I had time.

Ai Tre Scalini- Bottiglieria dal 1895

MAIN- £8

Would definitely recommend going early to this restaurant because it does get rather busy but not only because of the beautiful outside with vines draping down the building but also the food. Their menu is very small with only a few options for mains but has a large wine menu. I would have either their meatballs in tomato sauce or ravioli for the day. I would also recommend if there are a few of you to order all the mains to have a chance to try everything.

Pasqualino Al Colosseo

MAIN- £12

My friends and I loved their pasta so much that we ended up going twice for their pasta. I would say that anything from the pasta menu is worth getting but the two dishes that I got and absolutely loved were the creamy sausage pasta and carbonara.

Giulia E Sisto

MAIN- £10

Cacio e Pepe is a minimalist dish that literally is cheese and pepper, first created in Rome so this is the perfect place to try it. The simplicity of the pasta means that you have to get it from the right place to really indulge in the flavours. Located near the Colusseum this little restaurant offers expensive dishes for reasonable prices.

Bar Caffettetteria L'800

MAIN- £10

Another small cafe/restaurant near the Colosseum makes fresh homemade pasta that is perfect with every bite. Really good pricing and the proper Italian experience with its family-feel interiors.

Tiramisu Trastevere

£5

We chose this small shop for a quick sugar break and I was so glad we did! There are many different types of tiramisu flavours to choose from, including gluten-free and vegan options which is hard to find in Italy. Perfectly portioned and made right in front of you, when in Rome this is a must-try!

Mariuccia

MAIN- £12

We actually did end up getting into the TikTok famous pizzeria so we had to try it out... and I am so glad we did! It was definitely worth the hype, especially for their Nepalese pizza. I would highly recommend trying them out but my friends got the pasta and said it was as good so maybe try both if you are lucky enough to go!

Zia Rosetta

£5

During our walk around the city, we came across this little sandwich shop which also served gluten-free and vegan options so we had to pop in. I got the Tintarella rosette and couldn't recommend it more- bruschetta and pesto with a layer of eggplant. Their sandwiches are simple and affordable with an Italian twist.
