A Beach to City Break

I originally was planning to spend a week in Brisbane, however, plans changed after Cairnes when everyone was telling me that I had to go and visit Noosa. Luckily I was able to change my plans and booked 3 nights in a hostel in Noosa, as well as a tour around Fraser Island.

In this weeks post I want to share with you what I thought was worth doing when you go down to the small beachside town of Noosa and then an hour drive to the city of Brisbane.

Noosa

The first day I got to Noosa I spent the whole time at the Main Beach. I read, swam and treated myself to a poke bowl which was just perfect after spending the morning on the Greyhound bus. Because of the first day always being a little hard to meet people if no one’s in your dorm I will always plan to visit the area and spending the day on Noosa’s main beach is the way to go!

During my time in Noosa I did do the day trip to Fraser Island which I would highly recommend, however, usually travellers do the 3 day tour where you camp on the island but it was sold out when I tried to book it, similarly to the Whitsundays. I feel I didn’t do Fraser properly because of it, however, I know next time I’m back I will book more in advance. In spite of this I still really enjoyed the tour- you get driven around the island, all along the beach and swim in this incredibly blue creek which is perfect for the weather since it felt like a different climate compared to the main land.

On the final day I did the walk up the trail to visit the Fairy pools, especially worth going at sunset when it’s a little cooler weather. The walk starts at main beach and takes about two hours to get all the way around and back to the hostel. The trail is more than just the Fairy Pools but the view throughout is walk is breathtaking so the two hours is definitely worth it.

Brisbane

I spent the next 5 days in Brisbane where I explored the city after relaxing on the beach for the last couple days. It was quite a quick trip so I wasn’t able to do everything but the things that I was able to get to do I really enjoyed. I didn’t get to visit street beach or Kangaroo point but have heard really good things about so if I had more free time I would definitely try and visit them on a nice day!

One of the days I visited the Lone Pine Sanctuary with one of my friends from the hostel. The sanctuary focuses on supporting the koalas and It was such a fun experience to get so close to them but also there were so many other animals to visit there as well. The only issue is that it’s quite far out of the city centre so it takes about an hour and a half on transport so I caught an Uber which means it can be pretty price as well as getting the ticket and getting back home as well.

A nice evening activity is taking the free City Cat Ferry to Felons Brewery at the end of the circuit. As the sunsets and the  skyrise building light go on it’s a beautiful view to watch from the ferry. The Felons Brewery overlooks the main bridge in the city which also lights up. I went for a few drinks with some girls I met but I would also have liked to go back for dinner since the food looked so good!

Southbank is the perfect place to explore for a day for its food, vintage shops and museum. I went to a couple exhibitions but my favourite was in the Brisbane Library which was on tea towels and their importance to advertising Australia in the 1950s.  Other museums that were worth visiting was; Queensland Museum and Museum of Brisbane if you are interested in art, history and beauty.

On my final day in Brisbane I found myself heading towards the stadium to grab a ticket to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers Concert. This was super spontaneous and only heard that they were in town on the day so if you are planning to go to Brisbane check your dates as you may find that someone is planning to play that week.
