Siem Reap Cafe Search

After spending the morning helping VBC (a charity project that helps build homes for underprivileged families) we had the afternoon available so my friends and I would often walk around our area and try out a new cafe each day. Most of these cafes were more than just healthy, affordable food but also helped their community, whether that’s education, employment or the environment.

In this post I will share with you restaurants and cafes that offer gluten free and vegan alternative cafes that are helpful to know for when going out for breakfast and lunch in Cambodia.

Sister Srey Cafe
$$

Sister Srey is an eco friendly cafe, situated just before Pub street, with an amazing all day breakfast menu. For lunch I had their falafel bowl with a watermelon juice which I was perfect- the hummius was great and just enough falafels to go with the rice bowl. As well as their wide variety of lunch, all their desserts are dairy free and gluten free too- I would definitely get the passion fruit cheesecake with your Feel Good coffee (the local coffee brand used by many of their cafes that also works with a charity to provide education and employment.)

Babel Eco friendly Hostel
$$

Close by to my hostel was another hostel- Babel which also offered food, including local Khmer dishes. It’s such a calming and nice atmosphere with a mini eco shop next to the restaurant that’s also fun to explore. I tried the Amok fish curry which was delivered in a banana leaf bowl and also got a side of their beautifully coloured summer rolls which gave me just the right balance of warmth and freshness I needed in a meal.

Feel good/ Brother Bong Cafe
$$

Brother Bong was another Cafe that used Feel Good Coffee, and that also offered many gluten free and vegan alternative breakfast and lunches. There is a lot to choose from but would recommend getting their Eggs Benedict if never tried as it hit the spot perfectly for a healthy and filling start to the day.

Little Red Fox Cafe
$

Loved, loved, loved their salad bowl options and their sunshine shakes. With a cute and quirky environment it makes it the perfect place to get some work done or write in your journal (especially with their gluten free muffins and organic dirty chias!) I have to say their food might have been my favourite but didn’t have time to try out more from their menu.

Gelato Lab
$

By far the best ice cream I have ever had and I really didn’t expect to say that in Cambodia! On the corner of Pub Street the little shop had so many unusual flavours of ice cream to choose from, such as; chilli chocolate and dragonfruit, as well as coffees and hot chocolate- so their is something for everyone!

Footprints Cafe
$

One of the best cafe for local Cambodia food with a sophisticated twist. I would highly recommend their green mango and catfish salad and their summer rolls for a refreshing lunch all for $5, making it not only great quality but also great pricing as well.

New Leaf Cafe
$

Another great Cambodian cafe which I would highly recommend getting Khmer curry from and their fresh juices. The menu was so varied that there is something for everyone and the atmosphere is relaxed, with accommodating waitresses who make the experience so luxury.

Source Cafe
 $$

If you want a huge fresh salad or a burger- Source Cafe is the place to go. With so much option you can’t go wrong and their food will leave you wanting more. Especially their sweet potato fries and chilli mayo!

Browns Cafe

$$$

Although this is the only chain brand I have put on this list it had to be put down as their matcha lattes are incredible and one of the best I have had. They don’t have any gluten free or vegan food or cakes but just going in their for the peaceful atmosphere and their coffees seems worth it, especially if you need to get some work done.

Bayon Pastry School Cafe
$

Finally, if your in the mood for a French pastry and coffee for breakfast- this is your place. Their company focuses on teaching women from unfortunate backgrounds to make French cuisine which ultimately gives them the ability to get a job at their Pastry shop.
