Met Gala 2022

This year's Met Gala was the second part of In America: An Anthology of Fashion, specifically New York's "Gilded Glamour", focusing on America's late 19th Century age of economic boom.

Over the last week, there has been much controversy on the red carpet looks and whether the designers actually stuck to the theme of this year's Met, therefore I thought it only right to share with you some of my favourite looks from this year's Met Gala.

Riz Ahmed

Riz Ahmed changed the game arriving with a garment that was politically motivated.
His simple garment with details from Muslim Indian jewellery, in honour of “the immigrant workers who kept the Gilded Age golden."

Blake Lively

First stepping onto the red carpets, Lively wore a rose gold dress with a bow that untied to reveal a cascading green train with constellation embroidery inspired by the design over Central Station in New York. The dress’s transformation was inspired by the  Statue of Liberty’s colour change in 1906. Lively topped the design with a crown with seven spikes to represent the seven seas, similar to the Statue of Liberty.

Alicia Keys

In ‘New Yorkkkkkkk’. Key's black Ralph Lauren gown was covered with a black cape detailed at the train in diamante designs of the entire NY city skyline.

Kaia Gerber

This gilded dress was an Alexander Mcqueen semi-sheer gown. The cutout details and the use of silver beads were a modern interpretation of the gilded age beauty.

Lily James

This Versace lilac dress was so detailed, that the pearls completely covered Jame's body, even trailing off across her arms. This garment showed glamour and glitz at its finest.

Lenny Kravitz

Kravitz embraces his version of gilded glamour with a rock and roll element. Lace contrasting with the leather trousers, topped off with a corset made a bold statement but one that fit him perfectly.

Evan Mock

From the colour to the frilled neckline, it was a playful interpretation and such a nice change to see from the boring black suits most men were wearing that night.

Emma Chamberlain

There was some debate on Emma's Met Gala outfit this year, however, I thought it was perfect for her. The simplicity of the skirt and the blouse top gave the garment just enough to show off this year's theme while still remaining true to Emma's modern style.

Ben Platt

This is exactly what I wanted to see more men wearing this year on the red carpet. Adding a twist to the classic tux, nothing too crazy but the contemporary choice for a corset layered over the jacket and a simple string of pearls attached to the bow tie. It gave a feminine touch to the glamourous outfit.

Anitta

Finally, once again Mochino understood the assignment! With the sexy silhouette and bold colour draped with layers of pearls, this is exactly what we want to see in the Gilded Age!
