The Guide to Becoming a Sustainable Fashionista!
Becoming more sustainable has become a very important part of my life and I believe that it should for others as well to create help compact climate change!
Over the last year I have tried hard to understand the impacts fashion has on the planet, however, I have learnt that there is a lot out there and sometimes can be confusing. In this weeks post I want to make becoming sustainable a little bit easier!
1. Vintage and Second hand
Charities shops and vintage shops are everywhere around London so they are not hard to find! My favourite shop in London to go to is Good in Queensway, its full of interesting items from vintage to high street clothing- you should definitely check it out!
Perviously on my blog I've spoken about where I get my items from and it's mainly in shops as I love the search, however, especially now that all shops are closed there are still lots of online second hand shops to buy from, instead of buying at places like PrettyLittleThings. This includes; Depop, eBay and Vinted. And if you like places like PrettyLittleThings there are plenty of clothes on these apps which are still in great conditions and sometimes much cheaper.
2. Renting
Renting clothes have become really popular at the moment, instead of having to buy a dress for a dinner/party that you know you will never wear again, there are companies that will rent out amazing brands for a really decent price, usually letting you choose how much time you want to keep the garment. Renting has become so big that there is a brand in Selfridges called HURR on there main floor, making sustainable fashion more accessible!
3. Supporting sustainable companies
Supporting sustainable/small brands is really important, many brands are making clothes to order which means no garments will go to waste if no one buys them or use recycled fabrics instead of ending up in landfills. However, it's important to research the brand that you are buying from to understand in which way they are 'ethical and sustainable' as there are many ways that brands consider themselves sustainable without following certain approaches, like H&M which considers some collections sustainable but are still a fast fashion brand.
4. Swapping
Swapping is a perfect way of saving money and giving your old clothes new life. There is always going to be something you don't want anymore that someone else will so why not put that to action with a swap! This could be between friends and family or on an app, for example, Swopped.
Love, Aria
