What I Have Learnt from 2020

As it's the end of 2020 I thought it would be a good time to reflect on the year. 2020 hasn't been the best year for anyone but there were some positives that came out of it and we should remember that! In this post, I am going to share with you the things that I have taken away from 2020....

1. Self-love

Towards the beginning of lockdown life got very crazy for me as I was preparing for my GCSEs, as well as, worrying about the future with the virus, however, when lockdown did start I got to learn a lot about myself and learnt how I fully relax. This is very important when I went into the 'real world' again as I knew what to do when I get too stressed, especially when starting A-Levels.

2. Depop

At the beginning of lockdown I found I had lots of clothes that I didn't wear anymore but were still in great condition, that is when I started my Depop account. Before lockdown I was too busy to spend time selling items online but when lockdown started I got to get rid of lots of clothes and made money from them.

3. Spending time with family

Before the Corona Virus I would never get to spend time with my family. My brother and I were always at school or doing work and my father was travelling a lot for his job which meant we couldn't even spend a weekend together. When lockdown began we decided ever night we would have dinner together and watch something on Netflix- mostly Modern Family! This gave us quality time together without overstepping boundaries as we would mostly do our own thing during the day and then in the evening we would do something that became special to us.

4. Developing my fashion skills

From lockdown I was able to develop my sewing and pattern cutting skills and had lots of time to make things, such as, I made bags which I ended up selling on Depop, I also up-cycled my brother school shirts into a fashionable top inspired by Bella Hadid (and also sold them) and I made a dress from an old pattern piece set. This all helped me to become more comfortable on the sewing machine but also helped me become more confident going into my Fashion A-Level!

5. Appreciating things more

Over everything else I have taken away from this experience, the best thing I have taken away is to be appreciative and grateful for the things I had during this difficult time. When I was feeling down or annoyed at what was happening I had to remind myself that I was lucky enough to have; my health, my family, my home, my garden and having my own space (my room). These are all things that I wouldn't have thought about before but from this I have realised that not everyone is as fortunate as I am and could be suffering a lot more.

Comment down below what you are grateful for!

Lots of Love
