Summer Reading...
As I am writing this week's post the sun is out and the birds are chirping, summer is just coming around in the UK and everyone is getting really excited so I thought it would only be right to get everyone in the summer mood with a summer reading list.
My favourite part of a holiday is picking up a new book at the airport to enjoy on the beach or by the swimming pool. Today I headed out to Waterstones in my local town to explore and curate my summer list- I hope this post gives you some inspiration!
1. Beautiful World Where are you?
I love Sally Rooney's books and was really excited to get my hands on her latest book. The book follows two female characters struggling to figure out how to live and find meaning in their lives.
In the summer of 1977, a young girl spends her time on a Greek island and finds herself working for a famous Hollywood director. This book looks like the perfect read for a hot summer vacation away by the beach.
3. The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
A journalist struggling to make a name for herself is offered an interview with the 1960s Hollywood famous Evelyn Hugo. I have seen so many good reviews on this book and feel that the summer is the perfect opportunity to get stuck into it.
This book is a classic TikTok recommendation but I wanted to judge for myself whether it was worth the hype. The book is a romance that follows the story of a girl who has just finished college and falls in love with a boy named Ryle.
Another viral book recommendation, They Both Die in the End is about two strangers who make a friend on the last day of their lives and how their lives change forever because of the interactions they have.
Here is a list some of the books I have recently read and would highly recommend for the summer:
Could recommend this book more! This is a tragic love story between two characters, I would definitely try and read the book before watching the TV show to get your own perspective of the characters. However, unlike many tv shows, this series definitely gives justice to the book.
2. Conversations between friends
Another Rooney book, but personally I find her books so interesting and different to anything else I have read. This book follows the story of a college student who falls in love with an older married man. AND the tv series version of the story is coming out this weekend on BBC!
This book is a beautifully descriptive story of a girl's life living alone in the marshes. I listened to this book on Audiobooks because I found it quite hard to read, however, I loved listening to it. The writing is more complicated than in other books I have read, but you do get used to the text quite early on. Again, there is also a movie adaptation of the book coming out this summer!
This book was recommended to me multiple times but I never had the chance to read it until last summer. It is an incredible story of a man's journey through a Nazi camp and how he found love even in tragic circumstances.
5. Lily Allen's My Thoughts Exactly
I love Lily Allen's music so this was a great way to understand her music further. A hilarious and shocking autobiography of the musician's life. Sharing her journey through her childhood, fame, mental health struggles and rehab.
Make sure to also sign up for the Waterstone student card for 10% off!
Love,
Aria xo
